Howeth Farm has been in the family since 1857. Jean's great grandparents, cleared the land. Her grand parents planted corn. Jean's mother and daddy built barns and raised Brahman cattle. Then Steve and Jean (The Howeth's) built more barns and started with Angus cattle, then Brahmans, then Brangus, and finally the best "Beefmasters".
This compact, but efficient farm is composed of 68 acres of hay fields and pasture land. Howeth Farm backs up to the eastern edge of the Sam Houston National Forest. My wife (Jean) and I (Steve) have been raising beefmaster cattle here since 1991. Our son, Steven Earl is active here on the farm and we hope will take over the family farm someday.
We have over 25 mama cows, one herdsire bull "Jessy James" , and about 30 calves ranging in ages from just born to breeding age bulls and heifers. We DNA test our animals for Quality Grade, Tenderness, and Feed Efficiency markers, continually working to stay on the cutting edge of high quality cattle.
